Join Us as we dive into Advance Care Planning.

You don’t need a lawyer to think about advance care planning for health care! Having a living will and a health care proxy/agent/representative are ways to ensure that you have communicated what your health wishes would be if you become unable to speak for yourself.

Come to this hands-on workshop to play the Go Wish card game, learn about the Five Wishes form and other types of living wills, and have some lively conversation about how health care is supposed to work out… and how it often plays out in real life.

Workshop Led by Betsy Barton.

Betsy Barton is the Senior Associate for Community Engagement & Learning at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. She plans and conducts interactive education on a variety of topics for clinical and community audiences.

Before coming to Transitions, she worked at the Duke Institute on Care at the End of Life, the Health Inequalities Program, and on Duke research teams related to serious illness, caregiver stress, medical decision-making, and race-based differences regarding decision-making at the end of life.

The commonality in all of her work has been educating people in vulnerable populations about unpopular/taboo health topics.  She says “bring it on!”

She has lived in Durham since 1978 and has received her Master of Public Health degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1990.
