Endswell recommends working with funeral homes that publish their GPLs on their websites. Many funeral homes publish and advertise a lower price that doesn’t include various hidden fees. We encourage you to understand the importance of the General Price List, determine the total cost of services before working with a funeral home, and only work with funeral homes that publish their GPLs on their websites. 

How to Read a Funeral Home’s General Price List (GPL)

When planning a funeral, understanding a funeral home’s General Price List (GPL) is crucial for making informed decisions. A GPL is a document that funeral homes are legally required to provide, detailing every service and item that a customer may be charged for. It helps families navigate the costs associated with funeral planning, ensuring transparency and eliminating hidden fees.

What is a General Price List (GPL)?

A GPL outlines all the services and goods a funeral home offers. From basic services like transportation to more specific ones like embalming or the use of a chapel, everything must be listed, along with the corresponding prices. This requirement ensures families can see exactly what they’re paying for without surprises.
 
Typically, funeral homes present a few standard packages for services such as burial, cremation, and aquamation. These packages bundle essential services together for convenience and usually offer some savings compared to selecting individual items or services. However, when a family needs to customize a package by adding services, such as a memorial service or celebration of life, many funeral homes revert to a la carte pricing, which can quickly drive up costs.

Understanding Endswell’s Approach to Pricing

At Endswell, we believe in transparent pricing without hidden fees. Most families choose from one of our basic packages:
  • Cremation Package: $2,900 to $3,000
  • Aquamation Package: $3,400 to $3,500
  • Green Burial Package: $3,500 to $6,500
  • Traditional Burial Package: $3,500 to $11,000

Funeral homes are required to list a price range that includes the most expensive casket they offer. The full price list below shows every option and its price.

Each of these packages includes everything a family needs. However, we understand that sometimes families want to add additional services, such as a funeral service or celebration of life. Unlike many funeral homes that revert to a more expensive a la carte pricing method, at Endswell, we simply add the cost of the additional service to the package price. This practice helps us maintain affordability and clarity, ensuring families are only charged for what they need, with no inflated or hidden fees.

These prices are effective as of October 15, 2026, and are subject to change without notice.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the State of North Carolina require that certain disclosures be made by funeral providers on the general price list.

The goods and services shown below are those we can provide to our customers. You may choose only the items you desire. However, any funeral arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not specifically ask for, we will explain the reason in writing on the statement we provide describing the funeral goods and services you selected.

State or local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the casket in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container so that the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements.

Our funeral home makes no representations or warranties about the protective value of certain outer burial containers other than those made by the manufacturer. The only warranties, express or implied, granted in connection with the goods sold with this funeral service are the express written warranties extended by the manufacturer thereof. No other warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose are extended by the seller.

The models listed reflect the most commonly ordered selections. Additional models, including oversize, are available in our catalog. Custom selections may be available at an additional cost.

Basic Services of Funeral Director, Staff, and Overhead

Basic services and overhead$2,500

This fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you select. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremations, immediate burials, and forwarding or receiving of remains.)

The above paragraph contains verbiage mandated by the Federal Trade Commission. This fee is already included in our charges for the following packages: Cremation, Aquamation, Green Burial, Traditional Burial, Repatriation, Forwarding and Receiving of Remains.

The following is a brief explanation of our basic services fee:

  • Endswell staff and transportation team available at all hours
  • Guidance during the initial request of service
  • The arrangement conference
  • Obtaining biographical data for the death certificate; obtaining certified copies of death certificates and releasing them to informant or informant’s agent
  • The coordinating and planning of services with cemeteries, crematories, and other third parties
  • Clerical assistance
  • Obituary on Endswell website, if desired
  • Sheltering and storage of remains (5 days included)
  • Obtaining, filing, and recording necessary certificates, permits, and governmental authorizations
  • Overhead costs including insurance and administrative expenses, governmental reporting, and facility and equipment maintenance
  • Notification to Social Security Administration

Transportation

The cost for transfer of remains to Endswell is already included in all of our packages. The cost for transfer of remains to the cemetery is included in our charge for green/natural burial and traditional/conventional burial, and the cost for transfer of remains to the crematory is included in our charge for direct cremation. Additionally, the cost for transfer of remains to RDU is included in our forwarding of remains and repatriation packages.

The following transportation fees include up to 50 miles. Additional one-way mileage will be billed at $3/mile.

Preparation of Remains

Endswell prepares bodies for viewing and services by undressing, cleaning, and/or shrouding the body. This service includes placement in an alternative container when required by law.

Embalming Endswell does not require embalming to have a funeral with viewing.$1,000

Embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial.

The above paragraph contains verbiage mandated by the Federal Trade Commission. As a general rule, Endswell does not require embalming to have a funeral with viewing. There are some situations that may prompt us to recommend embalming, such as a viewing being held two or more weeks after death, international repatriation of the deceased, or if restorative work is required due to significant damage to the body. However, the final decision on embalming rests with the next-of-kin or authorizing agent except in certain special cases.

Funeral Services, Viewings, and Use of the Facility

An additional fee of $400 will be applied to all services and viewing charges if they are scheduled to occur on weekend days. For the following services, additional hours will be billed at $200/hour.

Immediate family viewing Use of the facility for up to one hour for up to eight people.$300

Anatomical Donation

Cremation

Includes Endswell Basic Services, transportation to Endswell within 50 miles, completion of Cremation Authorization, basic preparation of the body, local transportation to the crematory, the crematory fee, the return of the cremated remains to the funeral home, carbon offsets to cover transportation with Endswell and cremation impact, and a complimentary bamboo or wood urn.

By law, the body must be cremated in a container. If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials (with or without an outside covering). The containers we provide are cardboard.

Aquamation (Alkaline Hydrolysis)

Aquamation$3,400 – $3,500

Includes Endswell Basic Services, transportation to Endswell within 50 miles, basic preparation of the body, completion of Alkaline Hydrolysis Authorization, the aquamation, and a complimentary bamboo or wood urn.

North Carolina law requires a suitable hydrolysis container. If you want to arrange a direct aquamation, you can use a shroud made from natural, 100% protein-based fabrics such as silk or wool. The shrouds we provide are biodegradable shrouds.

Green Burial (Natural Burial)

Includes Endswell Basic Services, transportation to Endswell within 50 miles, basic preparation of the body, and transportation to the cemetery within 50 miles. Endswell is a Green Burial Council Certified Funeral Provider.

When Bluestem Conservation Cemetery is the chosen cemetery, there is a discount of $300 on all of the prices below.

Funeral homes are required to list a price range that includes the most expensive casket they offer. The containers we provide are cotton shrouds. These charges do not include any additional merchandise, cemetery charges, viewing charges, or ceremony charges. If you choose burial with a shroud, you will need a rigid board or similar object underneath the shroud. This makes it feasible to carry and lower the shrouded individual.
