Advanced Planning – Go Wish Card Game :
Many people attempting to fill out advance directives (living will & health care power of attorney) for the first time, or reviewing them later, feel anxious or frustrated by the choices they are asked to make. What makes life worth living? Breaths taken or puppy kisses, reading a book or recognizing loved ones, finishing a project or watching a child graduate from college? Would you want to have loved ones around your bed at the end or would you rather be left alone? What’s a good death to you? What would be a bad death?
One way to identify these choices, prioritize your wishes, and communicate those wishes to your family and doctors is to engage in an exercise with a deck of Go Wish cards. Developed by the Coda Alliance (www.codaalliance.org), Go Wish gives you an easy, entertaining way to think and talk about what’s important to you if you become seriously ill.
If this sounds interesting or useful to you, please come to an afternoon of Go Wish with Theresa Grywalski at Endswell Aquamation and Urn Gallery. Theresa will lead us through the instructions and assist if you have questions. Everyone will be provided with a deck of cards and a summary sheet to record your answers. If you’d like to take your deck home with you, we ask you to bring $10 cash or check to cover the cost.
We will have materials and space for 30 people, so sign up (annecweston@yahoo.com) as soon as you are able to commit.
