Obituary

David A. Kuzminski, 70 of Hillsborough, N.C. passed away peacefully in his home from pancreatic cancer.

David was born in Cumberland County to Stanley J. and Kathryn D. Kuzminski. He grew up in Aberdeen, N.C. Following his graduation from Pinecrest High School in 1971, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and never left the area. He graduated from UNC-CH with Distinction. He loved UNC. He loved Tar Heel basketball and he cherished his many years singing in the UNC Men’s Glee Club. David worked for the UNC Computer Science department, installing the first mainframe computer on campus. He later worked for UNC Health as a Unix Systems Administrator, retiring in November, 2019 with 35 years of service. 

David is survived by his wife, Wendy J. Kuzminski, his sons Kevin Michael Kuzminski (Claire) of Gaithersburg, Md. and Stephen Rawlins Kuzminski of Charlotte, N.C., his mother, Kathryn D. Kuzminski of Aberdeen, N.C., brother Daniel Kuzminski (Lauren) of Seven Lakes, N.C., his sister, Kathy Riley (Jim) of Wake Forest, N.C. and eight (8) nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father, Stanley J. Kuzminski and sister, Keilah Goff.

David loved being a father more than anything.  He cherished the long (or short) phone calls from both boys, always ending the call smiling and saying, “I love my children.”  David was involved in all of his sons’ interests in their youth – from coaching baseball and basketball to scouting, both when his sons were active, as well as returning to help with Cub Scout Day Camps. He was very proud of earning his Wood Badge certification, the highest rank for an adult leader.

David had an infectious smile and a sparkle in his eyes.  He was full of life and laughter.  He was a good friend to many and he was always willing to help. Whatever was needed – from building decks to volunteering with Orange County for voter poll sites.  David had many interests, including fishing, archery and gardening (to name a few).  He was very proud of the fruits of his labor from his summer garden – a tradition he carried on from his father.

He will be missed by so many.
