Obituary
Sergeant (retired) Ian Harris Stewart of Fayetteville, NC, joined his sister Megan Stewart to watch over their loved ones on Earth on the evening of Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at the age of 42.
During his time with us, Ian had the honor of serving in the North Carolina Army National Guard. He proudly served his country with the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, while attached to the US Army 1st Calvary Division during deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Ian’s unique talents and skillsets were many, but at the top of this list was his incredible art. Based largely around his love of biology and nature, his work boasted large canvases of brilliant colors, textures, and intricate detail. While acrylics were his preferred medium, he was also gifted with many others to include sculpture, papier-mâché, puppetry, and carpentry. In the last chapter of his life, Ian found love with his partner and fellow artist, Lindsey Bradsher, with whom he achieved a life-long dream of establishing a retail merchandise business. His final days were filled with love, collaboration, and creativity, which he was able to share with his loved ones, community, and beyond.
Of the many gifts he shared with his family and friends, Ian’s sense of humor, quirkiness, bright smile, and caring nature were infectious. He truly loved people, and was known to bring meals, conversation, respect, and kindness to others less fortunate.
Ian is survived by his Mother, Loula Pittman, Father, Don Stewart Jr., brother, Alexander “Zan” Stewart, sister, Kathleen “Kiki” Wilson, Brother-in-law, Seth Wilson, nephews Harris and Walker Wilson, Aunt, Mamie Pope, Uncle and Aunt, Dr. & Mrs. Houston Harris Pittman, Partner, Lindsey Bradsher, and his beloved dog, Gloria.
Services will be held in Ian’s memory at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the 9th of September, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 302 Green Street, Fayetteville, NC. Reception to follow in Hauser Hall.
