Kristoffer Guy Parker was born in Wurzburg Germany to Gerald and Kathleen Parker on February 20, 1974. He passed away on July 7, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife Emily and their amazing children Matthew, Abbey, and Sophia. Kris fought a several year long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.
Kris spent his early life moving from military base to military base before settling in Durham, North Carolina. He was the middle of three children and was adored by his Aunt Sharon. Kris never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
He was a devoted fan of Duke basketball, he kept a remote control in his work bag so he never had to miss a game. He loved fishing in the ocean even when he didn’t catch anything. He dreamed of owning a boat and taking it along the Great Loop. He spent hours playing with his kids and cheering for their sporting events. He never failed to bring a cooler full of refreshments that he was always willing to share. On weekends while Emily worked the kids knew they were guaranteed McDonalds and days full of cookies.
Kris worked over 20 years at Duke Hospital, predominantly working night shift on the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. His compassion and empathy endeared him to patients and colleagues alike. He delighted in playing Uno or Farkle with the children, was always willing to entertain toddlers and ride tricycles to bring smiles to faces of those around him. Kris’s kindness extended to the nursing staff. In the days before DoorDash he was alway willing to make a late night run to Cosmic Cantina or Cook Out. He never noticed if you drank one of his Diet Pepsis and always wanted to bring the dip to the potluck or really any night.
Kris’s greatest joy was his family. He adored his wife Emily and was immensely proud of his children. His home was a haven of love and laughter, where memories were cherished and bonds strengthened. There are many memories of beach trips, camping, days at the pool, and road trips.
Kris leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and selflessness. His memory will be treasured by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his work and kindness.
A memorial service to celebrate Kris’s life will be held on July 11th 5-7-pm at Endswell 407 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Duke PTCT Family Support Program at Duke University or Transitions Kids
