Marc Goldman passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024 after a years-long battle with lung cancer at the age of 74.
Marc was born in 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jack and Cynthia Goldman. He attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis and received a masters from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Marc dedicated his professional life to working as a psychologist for people with disabilities. After working for several years in Illinois, he relocated to Durham, North Carolina. Over the past two-plus decades, Marc had his own practice, contracting with multiple agencies, including Residential Services, Inc., and traveling the country giving talks about his specialty in the field.
Marc built a beautiful community around him in North Carolina, from his spin friends at Fuel Fitness to his colleagues, including those at RSI, to his kayaking home away from home at the Waterway Inn and Barrier Island Kayaks. He also loved NASCAR, and every fall you could find him at the Kansas Speedway, but not before tailgating in the parking lot with Kansas City barbecue and really, really good wine, dragging his brother-in-law behind him.
Marc never let his diagnosis slow him down, maintaining his lifelong love of fitness and the outdoors. In his final years, he continued his visits to the Carolina coast, kayak in tow, staying at his favorite place, the Waterway Inn. He travelled to Yellowstone and the Smoky Mountains, and kept active, crediting his years of exercise with his odds-defying fight against cancer. He even continued to take his vintage Trans Am for a ride. Marc also loved college basketball, good wine, and an Elmore Leonard novel.
Marc is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Cynthia Goldman. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Goldman and her husband, John Parisi, his brother, Jay Goldman, his nieces, Laura (Jamie) and Julie (Danny), his great-nieces (Madeleine, Lily, and Georgia) and nephew (Jack), and his many, many friends who gave immeasurable support and love to him until the very end.
A visitation for Marc will be held on Saturday, July 13th from 2:00-3:30pm at Endswell Funeral Home, 407 Meadowlands Dr, Hillsborough, NC 27278. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Residential Services, Inc. 111 Providence Rd. Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
