Obituary

Mary Pat McDonald passed away in her home in Durham, North Carolina on August 20, 2023, aged 64.  She was the primary caregiver for her mother with dementia these past few years.  Mary proudly wore her apron at the Morrisville Cracker Barrel and loved a good Cracker Barrel breakfast with her mother.

Mary is survived by her six children, Will McDonald, Kaitlin Markoff, Kyle McDonald, Emma McDonald, Anna McDonald, (daughter Eleanor) and Shaughn McDonald (daughter Sapphire), her mother Patricia Stubbing, and her brothers, David Anthony, and Matt Stubbing (Holly).  She was preceded in death by her son, Chad McDonald, her father, Dick Stubbing, and her sister, Laura Pocock.

Mary grew up in Arlington, Virginia.  She married soon after high school and spent many years as a Navy wife and mother, serving at military postings around the world as her family grew.  She moved to Durham in the 1990s to be closer to her parents.

A mass celebrating Mary’s life will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Community, 1001 Mason Rd., Durham, NC 27712 on Friday, September 8th at 2pm.
