Born October 6, 1935 in Durham County, North Carolina.

The youngest son of Murde Eugene Williams of Moore County, NC and Octavia Doris Stephenson of Harnett County, NC. 

Preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Ellen McFadyen and brother, Larry Eugene Williams. 

Ted, graduated from Hillsborough High School and served in the Korean War as military police in the Army.  He was stationed in New Jersey for two years. 

Upon returning, Ted attended East Carolina University, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and Teaching Certificate. 

While studying at ECU, he met his future wife, Nancy Carolyn Miller during a student dance. Ted asked her for a dance and proceeded to introduce himself as Ted Williams (The name was also synonymous with the famous base ball player).

Nancy, being a Physical Education major and all too familiar with the sport and players, incredulously responded, “For real?”  Ted responded, “Yes, I am really Ted Williams!” So, with that introduction a connection was formed. 

Later, in their relationship, Ted displayed his affection by showing up at Nancy’s dorm room door with a live duck for a gift!

To say the least, the duck sealed the deal. They were later married December 15, 1962.

Ted’s first job after graduating from ECU was teaching Science at Grimsley High School in Pitt County, North Carolina.

Upon moving back to Durham, Ted went to the University of North Carolina and earned his Masters and Doctorate in Environmental Engineering and Public Health. While there, he wrote publications with Dr. John Hickey addressing Health Hazards in the workplace. 

Ted became the Director of Continuing Education for Occupational Safety and Health Research at the University of Chapel Hill and was a part of a team of instructors that held conferences in many US states. They trained and certified workers in occupational safety, and health regulations. 

Ted also assisted in creating a Grant for students at Western Carolina University to attend classes and have hands on experience with OSHERC/continuing education at UNC.

Upon retiring, Ted performed consultations for several companies working with NIOSH.

Ted loved science and natural wonders like volcanoes and their affects on nature along with the discovery of fossils. He also enjoyed visiting natural science museums and national parks with his children and grandchildren. Fishing trips in Canada with his son and friends were among some of his favorite activities. 

Ted is most remembered for hosting large pig pickings at his estate for UNC staff, friends and family. Memories of energetic volleyball matches, kids running through the grass and sounds of laughter rising up in the air mixing with the smokey smell of pit style bbq are some of his most generous endeavors. 

As a hobby, he was a gentleman farmer, raising Black Angus and Red Hereford cattle for beef. 

Ted also loved having friends and family come to help collect and stack baled hay from the field onto trucks and trailers to store in the barn and then go take a dip in the Eno river to cool off.

His friends and family were frequently invited to fish on the pond, or just sit under a shade tree and shoot the breeze. 

He is survived by his two children and their families: 

Daughter, Jodie Lynn Williams Bennett, Son in Law, Samuel Bennett, Grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, and Heather, great grandchildren, Ezra and Asher.

Son, Christopher Moore Williams, daughter in law, Katiana Moraga, Grandchild, Hamin and another Grandson due August 1st this year to be named Theodore.
